Wildlife Veterinarian & Photographer
Hi, my name is Andrea and my “wild path” began shortly after my birth, when I was barely 2 years old, sat on my father’s knees with an encyclopedia, trying to guess the names of animals, and struggling to pronounce them properly.
Thanks to the endless patience of my exceptional grandparents and mother, I was fortunate enough to grow up with nature and develop the skills to capture its raw beauty and observe its creatures in an absolute unique and personal way.
My infinite love for nature thrived when I learned to read. I still remember the day my mother bought me “A Practical Guide for the Amateur Naturalist" of Gerald Durrell and soon after, several other animal editions such as the ones written by David Attenborough.
I spent my childhood with these books. I would sneak them into school, and sleep with them under my pillow. Ever since I was a child, reptiles and birds were my primary passion. I was dedicated to memorizing their common and scientific names, almost in order to win a personal challenge.
Day after day, year after year, my passion continued to grow, nurtured by the thousands of collections I would proudly keep, such as those of minerals, shells, nests and eggs. I then found myself immersed in birdwatching, and later, at the age of 11, I delved into wildlife photography.
My first camera was a second hand Yashica, in perfect condition, with its original film. Behind its Sigma 400mm lens, I disappeared for days, exploring every neighborhood park, losing myself in the woods. I would spend countless hours observing animals, camouflaged behind branches and reeds, eagerly reporting all my observations in my notebook.
This passion led me to pursue an academic career in veterinary medicine. I felt it was my calling to help all sorts of wounded animals and hand-rear nestling birds, fallen from their homes.
36 years later, here I am, finally working on the first edition of my website, sharing my photographic successes, highlighting the wonderful creatures that surround us, even those we may have forgotten about.
My greatest aspiration is to continue to improve my skills. We live in an awesome planet, yet we have to remember that we are not the only inhabitants of it. This means that it is our responsibility and duty to protect every living being, no matter their shape or size.
I believe in the magic of a photo. I believe in the fact that it is a powerful tool of communication for humans, and of protection for wildlife. I also believe that with this powerful tool comes great responsibility — That of safeguarding the environment in which we find ourselves in, and respecting the wildlife we are capturing.
Wildlife photography, thanks to the great evolution of photographic devices, the explosion of the media and the possibility of being practiced in every part of the globe, has become fully capable of highlighting the beauty and fragility of every being that surrounds us.
